A couple years ago I was fortunate to hear the Grammy-winning Béla Fleck and The Flecktones play at the Vancouver Jazz Festival. People had been telling me I had to see the amazing bass player in person to believe it – some claiming he was the most influential bassist since Pastorius or Mingus. As fascinating as it was to hear a modern jazz group with a banjo player as the front man, I was not fully prepared for the crazy skills of this mad mad bassist. Amazing Grace indeed.
