On Saturday, March 5th at 6pm, after weeks of planning and 13 hours of carefully stacking and arranging 13,000 non-perishable food items, our Industrial Brand/Legends Memorabilia team entry into Canstruction 2005 was awarded the Jurors’ Favourite, taking top honours.
A depiction of Snoopy sleeping on his doghouse complete with blue sky, green grass a dog dish (filled with peanuts) and Woodstock, our intention was to create a striking and vibrant sculpture. However, we also wanted to balance the needs of colour and form for the sculpture with a contribution of food items that represented good nutritional choices (tomato juice, tuna and sardines) as well as a few treats for the kids (marshmallows, Kool-Aid, Lemonade, assorted candies and candy bars). Check out all the details, photos and the time-lapse video here.
All this started at the beginning of 2003 when we were asked to participate in a new event to Vancouver called Canstruction©. Over 20 teams would be designing eight foot high sculptures out of non-perishable food items. Once the competition and show was over, the food would be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
On display from March 6th to 12th, all those who visited got a chance to vote for their favourite Canstruction. When we arrived on the 13th to take down our sculpture (which only took about 90 minutes), we learned we’d received the People’s Choice Award by a huge margin! Our official Jurors’ award qualifies us for the International awards which will be decided in May in Las Vegas. We’ll post the results here then. Fingers crossed.
UPDATE: Industrial Brand wins "Most Cans Used" at International Finals.
