The Legendary Doze Green

It is often the case that societies fail to recognize the important artists of their own time, waiting instead for history — and its documenters — to filter the spoils so that they may confidently champion the winners.

This artist seems like a safe bet. Jeffrey “Doze” Green has been a pioneer of urban culture since he started drawing grafitti on the streets of New York in the 70′s. He was one of the original members of the Rock Steady Crew and has remained at the forefront of Hip Hop culture from its humble roots through to its present indoctrination into every corner of the globe. Most notably, he has managed to successfully make the leap from street artist to the artworld without acquiring the inevitable title of “sellout”. His most recent venture has been performing “live paintings” accompanied by a DJ and Video mixer. If anyone has video footage of these performances, please post up the link. In the meantime, enjoy the work of a true legend.
