While the record studios are calling for Congressional aid in shutting down peer to peer file sharing, innovators such as DJ Danger Mouse, who last year shook the music scene with his Beatles/Jay-z remixed Grey Album are leaving copyright lawyers screaming foul.
But the public responded positively to these events, recognizing it all as the inevitable early steps in the evolution of online music production and broadcast. Recently, Trent Reznor has taken music’s online potential a step further by posting a Garage Band file of his new track “The hand that feeds” for download from the NIN website. Fans can rework the mix, add instruments, sing along and ultimately they can release it back onto the internet for others to hear.
