Our Zeitgeist tagged with “Websites”
The concept behind Typekit harnesses @font-face but protects the font files on a separate server. The designer/developer/client would purchase a license (per site? per month?) to use the font. With an expected to launch sometime this summer, the major draw back seems to be the issues surrounding the storage of the font information on a different server from the website. (required to satisfy DRM licenses) The anticipated problem with this surrounds the issues associated with the uptime (and downtime) of this font server. No server is up 100% of the time, it just doesn't happen. But what happens when this server goes down? Potentially all websites linking to this central database will lose their font definitions.
Sharing code snippits on a central server hasn't presented a prohibitive problem in the past as the
jQuery library,
CSS Resets and other snippits are all available hosted on a central server and used on major sites world wide and downtime hasn't presented itself as a problem. Although we might be comparing apples and oranges between Google's servers and Typekits. Time will tell. Certain some exciting developments for sure!

Perhaps not surprising, their objectives and audience needs and behaviour seemed best addressed through the creation of a blog. Senior members of the Henriquez team already kept personal journals and they wanted to archive and share their inspirations, opinions, rants, sketches, and even articles written on design and architectural topics. Also functioning as a modern upgrade to the old fax blast newsletters they used to send out,
the blog Archimemo was born.
The next challenge though, was how to tie their less formal, almost sketchbook-like articles, with their corporate website and portfolio. Through some careful analysis and planning, we created an editorial method of promoting certain posts from the text-based blog format to their Flash-based website via what we called "the tunnel" using
RSS.
The project was a challenge with hiccups and pitfalls like any other, but in hindsight I think we did a good job of meeting their creative brief and hope you agree.

Over time, all our Foodie friends started to join the fold and post to the site because that was what it was about - sharing our food experiences with our other passionate friends. They techincally weren't a part of Industrial Brand though and that posed some problems moving forward with the project. Thus, we made the decision that
In the Kitchen would morph into an independent online food blog and stand alone from the company. We renamed it
Foodists and have completely re-conceived the site, organizing it in a more graphic and compelling way.
The new site has its own playful identity and simple, colourful layout designed to provide friendly appeal to a broad audience. Instead of opinions, the site will offer "meditations". Rather than recipes or tips, we'll share "guidance". And as opposed to the standard product or restaurant reviews, we celebrate our finds in the "worship" section.
We guarantee you'll be hungry within a few minutes of reading.

We worked with our client to identify the key qualities of the new Jakes, Capable, Dependable, Resourceful, Down-to-earth, Professional and Progressive, which we used to guide our design process.
The result was a name change from "Jake's", implying one person, to the more inclusive plural "Jakes" and switching from "Contracting", a word that has the perception of a small-operation, to "Construction", which more accurately reflects the level and scale of their operations.
Using our new understanding of their brand, we developed a clean, simple logo as part of a brand identity that reflected the main attributes that underpin everything they do, from how they interact with their clients to the smallest to details of their work.
As part of their new identity, we created a full brand strategy platform, online styleguide resource with templates and brand elements as well as produced a promotional campaign, collateral system and new website to tell their story. Congratulations Jakes on the new look!

A key to the redesign of the SALA website was to present the UBC School of Architecture as a leader in the education of architecture, as well as to reflect a culture of design, research and community within the four recently merged departments. Additionally, the site required the delivery and management of a vast amount of program and admissions information in diverse graphic and textual forms in an easy to navigate format.
In contrast to the many brochure-style school websites, the SALA site presents the exemplary work that is produced on an ongoing day-to-day basis by its community. The design dynamically features content individually input by staff, faculty and students using a Drupal platform as a content management framework and an HTML and Flash presentation layer. Through the provision of individual blogs/conversations and the areas of the site provided to key groups, the site fosters interaction, exchange and exploration amongst the SALA community.
Congratulations to Mark, Ben, Haig, Amanda, Kevin, Cameron, Matthew, Sarah and everyone else who had a hand in bringing this terrific project to life.

With the help of designer Nancy Wu, we developed a logo design that emphasizes an exchange of ideas and communication within a like-minded community using visual language of quotation marks that symbolize talking heads as well as the four books of the Bible chronicling Jesus' life. In a nod to classic Christian iconography, there's even a subtle cross hidden in the negative space between the quote elements implying the underlying focus of this dialogue, while the colour palette progresses from cool blue to warm red suggesting a journey from discovery to acceptance. Can you see the cross? There it is!
After some intense analysis of the goals and content of their website, we developed a a strategic plan and developed a killer interface design using the new brand elements. The development team is hard at work bringing this complex website to life.
We're proud of the final result and feel it nicely tells the story of this unique brand quite well. Though a brand new identity, it has already started to get some attention from the design community, such as this feature on
Icorgada's Galeria.
Congratulations and very good luck to our friends at Yaaway.com as they launch the beta version of the website, begin promotion efforts and start building the community that will drive this unique social network. It's still in a development form and being updated weekly as they integrate new features and design improvements, but we encourage you to check it out at
www.yaaway.com.

So what is it? CondoVue is a web service that connects condo buyers and developers. It gives condo buyers free access to search a database of new condo developments in Western Canada, making the task of finding the perfect place that much easier, and hopefully comparisons more meaningful.
For developers, CondoVue is a marketing tool that provides an unparalleled platform to leverage their brand and showcase their new development online.
There's no shortage of developers and buyers who were practically begging for something like this, and hopefully the market trends here spell success for CondoVue. Keep your eyes on it as more features get added regularly and critical mass develops.
