Those categories are: Packaging Design, Brand Identity and Environmental Design. Rodney Fitch, chairman and CEO of Fitch Worldwide, London, will be the chairman of the jury. "I had often wondered why Cannes never honored design; for isn't design the very platform on which so much creative endeavor is based," said Fitch in a statement. "Now that the world has come to its senses, I'm greatly honored and not a little humbled to be the Design jury's inaugural president. I am confident the work we shall see will be inspirational and help make these Lions roar even louder." Click here to read the rest of this story at Adweek. The theme for this year's competition, “The Best of Visual Communications: Opens a World of Possibilities”, uses the visual language of a tournament ladder structure to reveal the various influences and inputs that go into a design solution, as well as serving as a representation of the fierce competition to win a prestigious Graphex Award. As well, the tournament ladder is flipped to explore the various possible influences and effect a particular design project can have far beyond the creative brief or client, such as on the community, economy, environment and society. And what effects will winning an award such as Graphex have on our own lives, reputations and careers? Graphex 2008 asks the question "What effect will your design have?" Enter now to find out. Great effort was made to follow our history, and the helmet on the latest version of the Spartan logo is more in keeping with the actual battle helmet that the ancient warriors of Sparta wore into campaigns. This is also the look that was achieved with the original TWC logo from the early 70’s providing a strong tie to our logo roots. It was important that the new logo be more versatile and simple, yet classic in design. In short he new logo had to clearly state who we are in name as well as in design, and to represent the values we hold to as Spartans. With these things in mind, the process began to unfold and eventually the new logo was born. The keyboard is pretty sexy too, measuring only 0.33 inches thick! Again though, my only concern is what it's like to type on those keys. Anyone with a newer MacBook will probably say you get used to it, and it's probably much quieter than its predecessor. Overall though, it's an attractive, powerful machine, and the prices are reasonable. I'll have to start saving my pennies to replace my 17' Gen 5 PowerPC iMac! I measured, the 24" will fit on my desk with just 1 inch to spare before it hits the shelves overhead. Giddy up! Sexy New Hardware

Apple announced the new iMacs today. Pretty sleek, although I’ll miss the white. My only gripe is that black frame around the screen. Why not make the entire face of it black, in all its fingerprint-prone glory? I think the brushed al [...]
