Monday, January 23rd is the Canadian Federal election. And what a joke it has become with ridiculous platform promises and seemingly insignificant issues being used as mud by Conservatives and Liberals as both sides engage in silly attack campaigns. Even Jon Stewart dedicated a good portion of a recent Daily Show episode to poke fun at us. The Subliminal Party decided enough was enough and created their own series of parodies of their attack ads run against Stephen Harper “not as a political statement, but as a statement about politics” to protest the lack of quality political discourse in Canada. They’re parody ads are admittedly silly, but so succinctly communicate a very real concern about the consequences for the health of our democracy. This election seems to have gotten goofy, it’s become less about voting for the party you trust and believe in and more about voting for the lesser of two evils. Gee, sound familiar? It worked out so well for our neighbours, I’m sure we’ll be just fine with Harper in charge. Hang on gang, this could be bumpy ride.
