When you participate in a communication mechanism, do you hold responsibility to check it? For example, I am frequently frustrated by people who have cell phones, give out their number, but never have their cell phone on, leave it at home, or never check messages. By telling me you have a cell phone, you have a certain amount of responsibility to use it.

The same goes for Facebook (FB). In my world Facebook seems to slowly be replacing e-mail. I don’t get any more “Can you come to my birthday party” e-mails; they’ve been replaced with an Event Invite on FB. I find myself sending, and receiving increasing amounts of small “e-mails” as FB messages. So if you’re on Facebook, do you hold some responsibility keep tabs on incoming messages? And if you miss my party because you didn’t get my FB invite, should it be my responsibility to send you an e-mail, give you a phone call or knock on your front door to let you know?
