I had the pleasure of catching my old friend Kevin MacKenzie perform at The Cellar the other night. A few years ago he enjoyed success with his Vancouver-based band Damn The Diva and I was honoured when asked to design the artwork for their hit album Flow And Steer. Recently he and writing partner/bandmate Jerry Wong (producer and guitarist with Bif Naked and Loverboy) have been reviving some of their classics as well as airing out some of their newer collaborations. I must say, I haven’t heard them sound so tight as they did that night. Kevin’s passionate vocals perfectly matched their songs about despair, deceit, loss and pain. It made me nostalgic and I just listened to their last album and was surprised how fresh and edgy it still sounds. Check it out. UPDATE: If you’re interested in catching them live yourself, Damn The Diva is performing at Buffalo Club on June 9th.

I’m ready for the Damn the Diva show tomorrow night. They’ve been laying low for too long, and Kevin Mackenzie is a major talent. Go and see them!!!

Hi Mark,
What an awesome job you did on that CD cover too. Way back in the 90′ I saw them play at the opening of a Rogers Video Store in Maple Ridge, BC. They played the whole CD and I bought it for $10 and they all autographed the cover. They are so good and I’ve been really missing them. Please send me a link to their website if they have one or let me know of any upcoming concerts in the Vancouver area. I would so love to see them again.
