Alive in Joburg

“This is what War of the Worlds should have been like” is how Spy Films plugs “Alive in Joburg”, the latest effort by Neill Blomkamp. CG expert turned director, Blomkamp has created some memorable spots with the team over at The Embassy in Vancouver including the dancing Citroen ad which made quite the stir last year in the ad world. But the work that most resembles the eerie and unsettling hyper real style of “Alive in Joburg” can first be found in his “Tetra Vaal” short which made my top ten list way back in 2004. It is without a doubt that Blomkamp possesses an amazing combination of technical talent and unwavering vision. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

I had not seen any of Blomkamp’s work before. This kind of ‘real’ style sci-fi tickles the same fancy as the grunge sci-fi aesthetics of a Blade Runner, kinda. Awesome links. I’ll for sure put one up on PrimeMinister at some point and I’ll be sure to source this post.
