Author Dave Eggers’s is responsible for some really cool stuff. My first brush with all of this was years ago when I stumbled upon an compendium of literary works called Timothy McSweeney’s. With submissions by numerous writers, some unknown, others not, the contents are cleverly written and often very humerous (I’ll blog on this separately). Each issue is uniquely designed with innovative techniques or some other cool element or graphic. Maybe this is what first appealed to me? I don’t remember. Then I read his memoir A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and thoroughly enjoyed his unique style.
Recently I was following a link and discovered the Pirate Supply Store. This is kind of a front for Valencia826 ,a creative writing centre for youth that Eggers founded. Check it out. Of particlur note is the comparison between what buccaneers received for injuries with the scales for payment to modern workers for simlar injuries. Be sure to check out the Events (such as the upcoming Dhani Lennevald Day). Oh, and the Gallery of Signs also terrific. Perhaps the reason this is so appealing is that it’s a really strong concept followed up with great execution which is something we hold close to our own hearts in this industry. The ship is sailing, bring your own citrus.
