The Vancouver International FIlm Centre is quickly becoming one of my favourite hideouts in this city. Following up last month’s viewing of the brilliant documentary Touch the Sound are a pair of films by Austrian director Michael Glawogger: Working Man’s Death, which looks at the dangerous and hidden world of heavy manual labour and Megacities, which focusses its lens on the micro and macro complexities of the 21st century ‘Big City’. To watch both of these in one night might be asking a little much of one’s faith in the human spirit, but thankfully they are both playing over the course of the week.
